Michelino Bisceglia nominated by the IFMCA Award 2022 for “Breakthrough Composer of the Year”!

The International Film Music Critics Association (IFMCA) announced the nominees for excellence in musical scoring in 2022, for the 19th annual IFMCA Awards. Each year the IFMCA goes out of its way to recognize emerging talent in the film music world, and this year is no exception. The nominees in the Breakthrough Composer of the Year category are a diverse group, spanning continents and styles. Belgian composer Michelino Bisceglia impressed with his beautiful scores for the animated biopic Charlotte and the intimate Irish-set romance My Sailor My Love.

Concerto For Oboe And String Orchestra is a journey through a fictional universe created by Michelino Bisceglia. The oboe is the guide that maps out the path the listener is supposed to follow. At the same time the oboe gives the listener sufficient freedom to enjoy the numerous layers, evolutions and dimensions that were invented by the composer.

In his concerto Michelino Bisceglia makes frequent use of the Leitmotiv, a technique that is notably associated with the operas of Richard Wagner. The technique can be defined as the use of a recurring theme that constantly evolves and mutates without ever losing its original meaning or identity. Bisceglia familiarized himself with this technique while working on his numerous film soundtracks.

Furthermore, the unique use of voice leading plays a key role in the concerto. In contrast to traditional contrapuntal music, Bisceglia’s melodic lines and their interaction with one another develop more slowly. This results in the continual creation of new consonant tensions and themes with countless rhythmic, melodic and harmonic variations.

The concerto was performed exactly as the composer intended by Piet Van Bockstal and the Brussels Chamber Orchestra.

Michelino Bisceglia decided to add a few extra compositions to the album. In Adagio For Strings Bisceglia implements the same techniques as in his concerto, without the use of a lead instrument this time. This composition was also performed by the Brussels Chamber Orchestra.

Lastly the album contains 3 unpublished choral pieces that Bisceglia composed in 2011 for the film Blue Bird from director Gust Van den Berghe. The mixed choir AMK Choir performed the choral pieces. All music was recorded at the Galaxy Studios.

Very proud with the release of this international Netflix serie. I had a great time with Hans Mullens to compose the soundtrack for the 10 episode show. Thanks to Sonhouse for their post productions contribution. Soundtrack soon released, Enjoy!

The 2D feature will be mainly based on Charlotte Salomon’s “Life? Or Theatre?” — an autobiographical series of 769 paintings which the young artist created between 1941 and 1943 in the south of France, where she lived before she was captured by the Gestapo and deported to Auschwitz in 1943 at the age of 26.

Michelino Bisceglia has been commissioned to compose the inauguration concert for the new park LABIOMISTA in Genk (Belgium). The concert on August 24 with the Brussels Chamber Orchestra and special guests.

The music from “Hannah” and “ Blue Silence” is selected for Best Original Soundtrack 2019 by Les Magritte du cinéma. Michelino Bisceglia composed those soundtracks and is honoured to be nominated one again for Les Magritte du cinéma.

On September 29th Michelino Bisceglia played a concert with music from the films of Tim Burton. The famous director attended the concert himself and was pleasantly surprised. After the concert Tim Burton shouted from the audience: “You made me cry” and “You can do all my music next time”!

In 2018, the exhibition The World of Tim Burton will be displayed at C-Mine Genk, a prestigious creative cultural heritage site in Belgium. Michelino Bisceglia has been commissioned by C-Mine to arrange and orchestrate the music of Tim Burton’s films for a unique concert.
 
From 28 until 30 September Tim Burton himself will be visiting his exhibition at C-Mine, where Michelino Bisceglia will be playing his concert on 29 September. The concert will also be the opening of the new concert season of C-Mine.

Belgian composer Michelino Bisceglia is making a name for himself as film composer. For the film Marina he won a World Soundtrack Award at the Film Fest Ghent in 2014. This quickly resulted in 3 international films: The Pickle Recipe, Light Thereafter and Hannah (starring British actress Charlotte Rampling). 

During his career Bisceglia collaborated with other important classical musiciens and orchestra: José van Dam, Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música.

ADAGIO FOR STRINGS

In 2011 Michelino Bisceglia composed the main motives of his Adagio For Strings. During this period he found out that his mother suffered from an incurable disease. The strong emotions the composer experienced are incorporated in these motives. 7 years later Michelino Bisceglia decided to finalise his composition and record it with the Brussels Chamber Orchestra. Adagio For Strings will be included on the album Orchestral Works 1, to be released later in 2018.

Michelino Bisceglia won Limburgs Culture Price 2017.

Michelino Bisceglia orchestrated and conducted the beautiful music composed by Raf Keunen for the film Le Fidéle (Racer and the Jailbird) directed by Michaël R. Roskam. The film will have it's world premiere at the international film festival in Venice and in Toronto.
